Poppies Memorial and Veterans Day Mixed Media Canvas

canvas 1

We have a fantastic new challenge for you this month at Stamps & Stencils.  Ruth has chosen the theme Floral Frenzy.  I wanted to go big with my flowers and selected my new IndigoBlu poppy set to make a Memorial Day/Veteran's Day canvas for my husband.  I am so thankful for his service to our country and the world.  It wasn't really his dream to become a soldier, but he chose to do the right thing for our family and I am ever so grateful.  To all of those who serve and the families that sacrifice so much - I thank you!

canvas 2

I used foam stamps and black acrylic paint for my letters and painted on the highlights.  I was going to do the entire piece on this brown cardboard, but it didn't work out.  I cut strips instead.

canvas 3

The flowers were stamped onto inky papers and fussy cut.

canvas 4

I went with a blue background to add some life.  I used a Tim Holtz stencil for the stars.

canvas 5

Before painting I glued hymnal pages all over the canvas.  I do hope you will break out your flowers and join us with a stamped or stenciled mixed media project.

I'm also sharing with:

Autumn, what a gorgeous canvas and a very special one to honor your dear husband for his service and to remember the many who sacrificed their lives to defend our freedom and liberty! May we always remember and never, ever forget...especially because the families continue to sacrifice and feel the loss. You've really made a beautiful and touching canvas, and I love the words and that they are on the brown. And the background is amazing! Your poppies are perfection with the color and how you've arranged them. I love them and know it will hold a special place in your home. Hugs, sweet friend! (P. S. And congratulations on being the Verve winner!!)

First off, many thanks to you and your husband for his service, and of course, for the sacrifice you made in being away from your husband as he served. We do not say it enough!

Secondly, your canvas is wonderful with those bold and beautiful poppies set off by the gorgeous blues in the background. The stars are a perfect element and your words, brilliant! Love this! Big hugs!

How lovely! I really like that the hymnal pages have contributed to your masterpiece. It must have been very heart-warming and meaningful to create something specifically with your husband in mind, Autumn. Thank you, too, for the many sacrifices you had to make so that your dh could keep our country safe and free. love, de

Well done, as always...love the red poppies against that blue background. And the sentiments are perfectly expressed. A card that is an act of love & gratitude, and my thanks to your Hubby for his bravery & sacrifice for our country. My DH was the same way (Viet Nam, navy). None of these young men wanted to leave their families, but they did their duty, bravely, and this should NEVER be out of our minds. I think too many of our countrymen today, don't consider this, and are too ready to toss that sacrifice away. Bravo to you for this fabulous reminder and thank you. TFS & Hugs

First things first...huge thanks to your dear husband for serving our country. His dedication and sacrifice are greatly appreciated! Give him a big hug from me! Now, onto the show....hehehe. This color palette just grabbed me right off the bat. It is so striking! The subtle background elements of stars and musical notes are just lovely. Your poppies are beautifully colored and that sentiment is perfect. I grew up in a small town where we all wore paper poppies on/around Memorial Day. Just a gorgeous project, Autumn!
