Tim Holtz Distress Oxide Wildflower Mixed Media Canvas

It's time for a new challenge at Frilly & Funkie and I have the pleasure of hostessing this challenge.  I've chosen the theme Timeworn.  Here is your task:  As the last leaves fall from autumn trees, we are reminded of the beauty of yesterday.  The leaves crinkled underfoot, the clock ticking onward, a fleeting memory...  For this challenge, we would love to see your timeworn vintage or shabby chic creations celebrating the beauty of the aged, dated or weathered.

I decided to create some aged, worn backgrounds with a favorite medium, Distress Oxide.  I inked a few panels and an old hymnal page with the colors shown.

I was delighted with the effect the DOX had on the hymnal page!

I embossed Tim's Flower Garden stamps in white onto my inky panels then fussy cut.

I used a mix of blue and green embossing powders on the Ornate Frame die, cut from chipboard.  Within the window I embossed a $1 stamp I picked up in one of those teaser bins near the checkout at the craft shop.

To tie the blue elements back in, I stamped a very old Tim Holtz background stamp in DOX onto the page.  The secret is to mist the inked stamp lightly before stamping.  I also go back and mist the paper after to really activate the oxidization.  I used a metallic small talk sentiment sticker to balance the composition.

My precious friend Remya sent me - all the way from India! - a beautiful collection of filigree metal embellishments, much like those in The Funkie Junkie Boutique.  How amazing and kind!  Thank you Remya.  Now, each of you must RUSH over to view Remya's blog and her incredible junk journals.  I mounted my curled edged page to a piece of burlap paper and mounted it over a piece of chipboard, with the edges embossed in the same blues.  I hope this will be a beautiful reminder...

And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.
This is the first commandment. And the second, like it, is this:
You shall love your neighbor as yourself.
There is no other commandment greater than these.
Mark 12:30-31 (NKJV)

I hope you've enjoyed this aged, distressed take on our Timeworn challenge theme and are inspired to get into your stash and have a play.  One lucky participant will win a $25 gift certificate to the Funkie Junkie Boutique!  There, you will find these and other amazing art supplies:

This is really lovely, Autumn! I love the layered burlap, old hymn paper (good choice...one of my favorite hymns!) and that lovely embossed flower. It's such a restful piece and as always with your work, the composition is perfection. Love the blue/brown combo, too! This was one of my all time favorite challenge themes!

A beautiful canvas filled with vintage goodness and a wonderful reminder of God's love! The colors you've chosen for the frame and flower are delicious!!! And the DOX does look great on the hymnbook page, aging it perfectly (it doesn't look good on cheap graph paper (ask me how I know!)! You are such an inspiration, and I LOVE this challenge--now I just need to get to work on it! Ha! Hugs!
