Vintage Lace Mixed Media Journal Layout

I'm thrilled to finally be finished with a year long journal rotation with a group of artsy friends.  I'm sharing my second to last spread today and will share the final one with you soon.  This is one of my favorites in the rotation.  The owner loves vintage laces, trims and imagery, so I tried to combine those things into a mixed media project in her chosen color scheme, denim and ivory.

First I set the stage with some drama by using a damask stencil and Distress Stains.  While my texture paste was wet I poured on chunky glitter.  It caused the color to intensify in those areas, which was quite an unexpected pleasure.  I chose a found relative by Tim Holtz and a butterfly from his botanical ephemera collection.  The chipboard letters and star brads are also TH.

I found several bits of note taking in an old book I bought.  This one was explaining the process of doubt, which intrigued me very much.  I layered it over a die cut chippie then cut off the bottom and adhered some favorite (hoarded) trims.

Next, I raided my stash of true vintage papers and found this beautiful envelope.  The lady reminded me of the same girl I had chosen for the opposite page, so I decided she would be the grown up version of this pitiful girl.  Isn't she proper?

I arranged a bed of laces for her and adorned the collection with a filigree metal piece from my sweet friend Remya in India.

Some of my laces are from my very dear sewing friend that passed away this summer.  I treasure them and think of her and softly hum her favorite hymn while I work, "How Great Thou Art...."

To the side I layered a vintage coat ticket with a Prima packaging tag and a tassel.  The spread is so big I could hardly photograph it all.  I hope you have enjoyed this peek.  I have missed this type of work and so enjoyed playing again.  Hugs, Autumn

So wonderful and expertly crafted! The denim and ivory is a definite winner as is the found relative with the butterfly wings, not to mention that stunning lace and the metal filigree (I've just ordered some of those myself from China - it will take a month to get here!) You always select the perfect elements and turn them into something even more beautiful! They magically become much greater than the sum of their parts! I'm sure the owner of the journal will be absolutely delighted - I know I would be!

Utterly charming with the vintage vibe, gorgeous colours and inclusion of found objects. I loved reading the details of humming your friend's favourite hymn as you created with her treasures.

What a gift it is to be here visiting your blog this morning, Autumn! I ADORE your vintage pages! Wow, your background is spectacular and reminiscent of old wall paper. Your old notepaper and envelope are two wonderful scores and look so pretty paired with your hoarded trims and laces. What a treasure to have your departed friend's trims, and sweet of you to share them on something you may never get to hold in your hands again. Sort of sharing your memory of your friend and blessing someone else with her gifts. Oh, I too love this hymn, and am thrilled every time I here our praise band sing it.

Such gorgeous details, Autumn! Sadly, I can't remember whose journal was whose, but I know your artsy friend is going to treasure these pages! Still haven't gotten my little one back yet. Now I'm off to see your orange/pink one. Sending hugs your way!
