Hi everyone and welcome to my inspirational post for the newest Happy Little Stampers Mixed Media Challenge. This month's theme is "water" and boy have I ever had fun playing with water on this piece!
I really wanted to use my new Tim Holtz die, so I made some watery baths of Distress Ink and layered the two darkest panels to start. Then I added some white embossing for contrast. Next, I built layers and layers with inky paper from my leftover stash. Tucking pieces here and there and cutting tags from tidbits. I used Mod Podge to glue every piece of inky paper onto chipboard, then cut it out so it would be nice and sturdy on my canvas. The Tim Holtz border die was cut from scrap mat board.
For my background I played with watercolor on a cheap 8x10 canvas panel. I was so surprised at how nicely the canvas accepted the watercolor. As I added my puddles, I sprayed with water to move the color around and eliminate any hard edges, flicking here and there as I went. Then I inked my text stamp and spritzed it with water to create some extra texture in the background.
I used cardboard in between all of my layers to get heavy dimension.
I have to say that I was very inspired by Aida Haron and her awesome dimensional projects. She is the layering queen! Below is my completed canvas. My favorite element is the negative space, the white areas of the canvas. Thank you so much HLS for having me GD for you again this month! It was so much fun to play with bright colors and make this happy little canvas.
I'm also playing along with:
