Fall Leaves and Autumn Bees Tim Holtz Cards

Happy September friends!  I'm sharing a simple and not so simple fall card batch with you today.  The first card features layered stamping with the Stamp Platform and a mix of Distress Inks and Oxides for a rich, ethereal effect.  I used the Falling Leaves stamp set that came out several years ago.  I did my stamping on an inky background I had made then gave it a good splash of inks for texture and cut it with the Stacked Baroque die set.  I traced the die to get a small mat and cut it by hand, then embossed with the 3D Lumber Texture Fade. 

I had a lot of fun with the background panel.  It was one of those play times with my inks and Oxides, but the end result was kind of a hot mess!  LOL!  To salvage it, I inked one of Tim's embossing folders with Gathered Twigs and spritzed it then ran the paper through.  I repated this twice to get a deep brown.  I just love the contrast it created!

For my next card, again I was pulling out old backgrounds I had made during random play times.  I make backgrounds whenever I don't feel super creative.  It is always fun to do, no matter how you feel!  You may remember THIS card featuring a corrugated panel from last year.

I've layered with backgrounds using the Botanical and Batik and Lattice and Flourish stamp sets.

To make my elements appear to have a patina, I cut the Wildflower Stems 2 from brown card and dipped in Evergreen Bough Distress Oxide.  I embossed the Geo Insects in Burnt Copper Leaves embossing powder, then rubbed with watered white gesso and let it dry, then rubbed with Evergreen Bough DO to create a patinaed metal effect. 

This I layered over another inky scrap and a Ticket Booth stamped and die cut image.  I used the stitching from the Patchwork Pieces stamp set to blend the edges of my panels together.  I died Tim's Trimmings ribbon with  more Gathered Twigs and frayed it out as much as possible, then tied around my background.

Tim Holtz Leaves and Pumpkin Hay Rides Cards

Last year I made these altered pumpkins with the Tim Holtz Sizzix Bigz die.  I glued a backing piece to them, then painted them with Distress Paint and then embossed a Stampers Anonymous background stamp on them, then rubbed with gesso to tone down.  I loved them so much, but could never get my ideas together to turn them into a card.  Until now....

I just can't stop playing with my Stamp Platform and Layered Stamping like I shared on THIS video on Instagram @sewpaperpaint.  I put all of my leaves on the platform to make one big background, then inked them up with Evergreen Bough DOX, then with Bundled Sage DI, then with Gathered Twigs DI.  Using a mix of Distress Oxides and Distress Inks together create such depth in the image!  The leaves are from last year's Nature's Wonder stamp set.  I overstamped with the tiny script from the Entomology stamp set and splashed liberally with watered inks. 

My pumpkins were cut from chipboard and I dyed the tops with Vintage Photo and curled and distressed the stems to add dimension.  I added twine bows and stamped a Sizzix tag with mini alphas to spell out "Hay Rides."  

I layered with some cool ribbon, book pages, vase filler and stamped images from the Ticket Booth stamps and dies.  

And here is the sister version with the squatty pumpkin.

Notice on this pumpkin I didn't do the gesso wash over the embossing.  Two completely different looks.  And the backdrop for these photos are the actual maple leaves that are suddenly covering my front lawn!  Meanwhile it is still 98 degrees outside, but hey the leaves are falling and soon the hay rides will begin!  :)

Tim Holtz Fall Foliage Funky Mushroom Cards

OK, I have put out two aqua and cream pumpkin pillows and bought all new fall scented candles and am trying desperately not to break out the orange plaids just yet, but I am excited that fall is near!  Usually I get sad at the end of summer because it means no more swimming, but since the pool is cold already why bother.  I'm thankful for fall every year and love to savor it by spending cozy days in my studio making pretty leafy things.  

I was sharing a my fun layered stamping technique with my friend Barbara.  I've shared this on my video tutorial series on Instagram under #stampreel before (@sewpaperpaint).  I used the Ornate and Lace stamp set by Stampers Anonymous.  The imprint on the left is with Distress Oxides and the one on the right with Distress Inks.  Well, these awesome colors: Crushed Olive, Peeled Paint and Gathered Twigs over a base dipped in Frayed Burlap and Shabby Shutters got me so in the mood to make a woodland card!

So I tapped my craft mat with these pads, spritzed and dipped tons of dies from the Funky Foliage set by Tim Holtz for Sizzix.

The mushrooms were dipped and then colored with a waterbrush for further detail.

I used a tea bag and corrugated packaging to create a little hill base for my foliage. 

The holey paper is some sort of vintage sticker roll I hoard, topped with a Small Talk sentiment.

I wanted to use the second panel too, but somehow I shadow stamped by moving my paper around when I was doing the third imprint, so I cut out the center (best portion) of the paper with the Stacked Postage die.  I layered on a panel I had inked and stamped with Tim's Ledger Script stamp set in Frayed Burlap.  

I found this button/leather on the ground and it went along perfectly with the layered Tissue tape, corrugate and holey paper.  I edged the panel with the new Ranger Mixed Media Embossing Powder in Lime.  The focal point die is from the Wildflower 2 set, cut from metallic brown card.  Forever comes from the Script Friendship set.  I'm not stopping here, but ran out of time.  I've already covered my craft table with more fall project elements and have two cards in the works.  Where does the time go?  Have you started fall crafting yet?  Share links with me in the comments...

Tim Holtz Festive Funky Poinsettia Christmas Cards

Hi friends!  I picked up a few of the new Tim Holtz Christmas dies by Sizzix at the Stamp and Scrapbook Expo this past July in Duluth, GA.  For those of you in the South, this was my first time going to this show and I loved it!  But I am super happy that the Stamp Scrap Art Tour has come back to Greenville, SC FINALY!  I'm going to the Friday make and take and show on September 20-22.

I only got three new dies, the Poinsettia Pieces, Large Funky Festive Florals and the Adorned scrolls.  I'm desperate for the Crochet lace dies, but they weren't in stock.  I called my good buddy @carolinasweetlee for a messy play day.  We had a ball die cutting and dipping. 

I am soooooo happy that Tim released a jumbo sized funky floral!  Especially for Christmas.  I paired it with the Poinsettia Pieces as a background and some older TH stamps.  I added a little glue stick and Ranger Foil sheets.  I kept the vintage vibe by spritzing my Festive Overlay sentiment and blotting it to give it a more faded look.  

The numbers from the Merchant Stamp Set were embossed in Ranger Princess Gold.  I love this set so much and try to use it whenever possible. 

I've shared a couple of videos on my Instagram page (@sewpaperpaint) on layered stamping using Tim's Stamp Platform.  I made this background using that method with Festive Berries, Aged Mahogany and Faded Burlap Distress Inks and the Ornate and Lace Stamp Set.

I omitted green and added gold embossing to my Adorned scroll die then embossed the panel edges to coordinate.  I cut a window with the Stacked Archway die and put a piece I had made long ago with one of Tim's background stamps and Distress Embossing Powder inside.  I overstamped another Festive Overlay sentiment in black.  I am so glad Tim is releasing more and more sentiments.  :)

My last card is a mop up panel with Antique Mahogany and Festive Berries and that Ornate and Lace stamp again, but embossed in gold.  I embossed the sentiment from Festive Overlays in Ranger's new embossing powder, Vintage Pearl.  It may be hard to tell, but this is an off white embossing powder.  See how it coordinates with my vintage baker's twine?  Usually when I use white embossing powder my twine looks super dirty!  LOL!  I cut the sentiment with the Stacked Baroque dies and added some eyelets for dimension.  I'm so happy I finally finished and mounted these cards.  They are my first three of the year for Christmas.

Prima Georgia Blues Skinny Mini Album Tutorial

Hi friends!  I'm thrilled to be joining our challenge at Mini Album Makers again for our September Challenge.  We made it to the two year mark and are hosting a blogaversary hop.  Make sure to visit the challenge and our DT posts for a chance to win a $25 gift certificate to Lindy's Stamp Gang.  And if you participate in our challenge you will also have a chance to win a  Stencil Girl Studio Class!   

I wanted to create an album that was specifically geared towards using Prima Marketing A4 paper pads.  I find these pads are the greatest value and I waste much less when using them for cardmaking.  This album maximizes the pad and allows you enough pages to showcase the various patterns in the Georgia Blues pad.  I've linked all of Prima's A4 pads at the end of this post so you can choose the one that works for you. 

I find this method of album construction the easiest.  I determine my scrapbook paper page size and build from there.  To cut the A4 paper in half it is roughly 4 1/8".  From there I determined a height I thought was proportional, 7 3/8".  Next I cut watercolor pages to the sizes in the photo above.

I scored each piece 4 1/4" from each side.

I wanted the gutter between my pages to have some color, since many of the pages were dark blue, so I wrapped washi tape around the panels to the back, between the score lines as shown.  I burnished the tape very well.

Next, I used my We R Memory Keepers Envelope Punch Board to make some small envelopes to add as flaps to a couple of my pages.

I cut chipboard covers to (two) 4 1/2 x 7 3/4" and (one) 3 x 7 3/4" .  I glued them onto fleece/batting with a small gap between each panel and cut the edges even all the way around.  Then I wrapped the panel in cloth and mitered the edges, as shown.  I covered the inside with paper, carefully using a bone folder to gently make the folds in the paper, as not to tear it.

I nestled the pages together and glued them to the inside spine of the book.  The result is tall and skinny but super chunky mini album!

I glued elements to the cover in collage style.
