My First Frilly and Funkie Design Team Post

I'm ever so happy to announce that I am a new design team member of Frilly & Funkie!  This has been such a dream of mine and I keep having to pinch myself to see if it's real!

Our June challenge hostess, Nancy Dynes has chosen the theme You're My Inspiration.  She says, "Find any type of image or photo that inspires you and create a vintage or shabby chic project based on that image or photo (you don't need to actually use it in your project). Please post the image on your blog along with your project, and tell us what it is you love about it."

I recently broke the frame that housed this beautiful copy of a very old picture of my Grandmother.  I thought it would make a great starting point for a collage.  I decided to use a Bible that was in the giveaway from the library for my base.  This way I can use the pages for Bible journaling later, something I have been wanting to try.  The side of the pages were stamped with the library stamp so I sanded the edge of the pages to fade the marking, then stamped with a Tim Holtz stamp repeatedly along the sides of the pages.

I used clear gesso to prime the cover, because I wanted my transparent color layers to show some of the cover pattern beneath.  I created texture with Tim's Mini Layering Stencil and texture paste, repeating the design all over my cover and spine.  I love the tiny design of this stencil.  Next, I mixed mini Art Stones with gel medium and brushed over the seams where the stencil pattern repeated.

I painted the cover with brown DecoArt fluid acrylic, then sprayed Lindy's Stamp Gang to add shine and the blue puddles.  I added a little aqua DecoArt fluid acrylic over the blue spray for depth.

I stamped Seth Apter's background stamps randomly to add more texture to the cover.

I layered a Prima Wild & Free flower over a bundle of sisal.

I cut a Weathered Clock die from chipboard and embossed with Emerald Creek Burnt Copper Leaves EP.  I added some DecoArt aqua fluid acrylic to the embossed clock, then lightly tapped with my Versamark again and embossed over the paint.

I really loved the effect of blending paint with embossing.  You can see I attached Mica Flakes with gel medium randomly on my finished collage.

I gave the same treatment to the Scroll dies.  I am wildly in love with this Bigz die!  It is my favorite of Tim's releases this year.

The paint adds a bit of patina and dulls the shine of the EP.  I tore a tea bag and tucked it under my photo.

I left the wood chippie raw and added one of Tim's new Clippings sentiment stickers, which I thought was so appropriate for this project.  The joy of the Lord was exuberant in my Grandmother and her joy was contagious!  I hope this coffee table book will inspire everyone who comes into my home.  I also hope you'll be inspired to enter our challenge for a chance to win a $25 shopping spree to the Funkie Junkie Boutique.

"The Lord your God in your midst,
The Mighty One, will save;
He will rejoice over you with gladness,
He will quiet you with His love,
He will rejoice over you with singing."
Zephaniah 3:17 NKJV
