Today I am thrilled to join Frilly and Funkie as a guest designer for their All Lined Up! challenge with host Jenny Marples. Jenny says, "For this challenge you need to think in straight lines! Be it rows or columns, stripes or even grids make sure those vertical and/or horizontal lines are a clearly visible part of your vintage or shabby chic projects (the edges don't count!)"
I started with a section of Scrabble board game and covered it with layers of chipboard strips. Then I gave it a splatter of gesso across the middle and a whip of DecoArts crackle paste across the bottom. Later, I decided to flip the orientation.
Remember when you were a girl and would take all of your babies out and line them up to play, well that's what I did with some NBUS (never before used stamps). I just wanted to play, play, play!
I decided to emboss the mesh stamp in one of my mom's beautiful EP colors. I stored them upside down in this cookie tin. I chose PSX Woven Tapestry, after seeing it sampled on this scrap. Would you like to see more of my storage ideas? Join me tomorrow for my Where Bloggers Create post. I'll share a full studio reveal!
I knew right away I wanted to play with Infusions powders, but thought I would try a new combination. I used watercolor crayons to create some background color. Here you see I scribbled various colors on the board.
I blended them with water and a brush. Sadly, I forgot to photo the panel after I added the Infusions on top, but you can see the effect in the closeups below.
The Infusions powders (by PaperArtsy if you're wondering) have walnut crystals mixed in with the pigment powder and create a lovely worn shade of the various colors. Look how beautifully they penetrated my crackle paste! Here edges of the Prima butterfly collage stamp came out to play.
The edges of the chipboard strips pick up the pooling color and are darker. I didn't gesso the panel heavily so that some of the original Scrabble board color would peek through in areas. Easy dimension and depth!
Here you can see the dots of walnut crystal and how beautifully they play with the Woven Tapestry EP.
I used a larger set of alphas of my mom's to create the sentiment, particularly meaningful to me in a time when my country struggles with division...
Our lovely Lynne Perrella lady, also by PaperArtsy, is stamped on a scrap background I made when first playing with Infusions. This one is from Lemoncello, a lovely yellowy brown with various dots of random colors mixed in here and there, but very sparsely.
I topped her with a silk bow, oh how I wish I could find this hand dyed silk ribbon again...
A very special thank you to the Frilly & Funkie team and to Linda for having me join them this month. Thank you for your lovely and inspiring challenges and inspiration and for helping create community in our stamping world.

This composition is wonderful! The color palette is so rich! I love the way the textured background captured all the various inks and infusions. As to the hand dyed silk ribbon, you might try Really Reasonable ribbon. They carry some in the shop, and the owner would probably be willing to special order for you. She's a sweetheart. Thanks for sharing this beauty with us. Xo

ReplyDeleteCongratulions! You deserve it! And wow, what a beautiful piece of work! Lots of texture, beautiful colors and I adore the crackle!
ReplyDeleteThis is a stunning piece of art, but...... the most important rule for the challenge at De Stempelwinkel is that you use at least one stamp sold by De Stempelwinkel, and I can't find one! I'm very sorry, but I have to remove your project from our challenge. Please try again, using one of the stamps sold by De Stempelwinkel (De Stempelwinkel, Enchanted Ink, Non Sequitur, Fusion Art, Cherry Pie, Stampscapes, Designs by Ryn, so enough to choose from!)
ReplyDeleteOh so sorry! I did not notice the rules in the sidebar! I appreciate the notice. <3
