I picked up this spool of denim cord several weeks ago for pennies, intending to use it somehow for Finnabair's denim challenge. Well, the Small, Small World challenge at Frilly & Funkie was just the inspiration I needed to get to work on altering the spool. I decided to cut a couple of strips of vintage ticking and adhere them together to make the scroll.
It reads "have faith and dream again" in my hand lettering. I used Liquitex liquid acrylic for the lettering.
I knotted the ends of the cord and frayed the strands to make a tassel on each end, and use this to tie the scroll up when rolled up.
Oh how I love vintage ticking and loose lettering!
I didn't take a photo of the process of altering the spool and could kick myself because it looked so cool even without the embellishments. On the top I stenciled a Prima stencil with texture paste. I used my palette knife and brushed texture paste along the rims and inside too for texture. I sprayed the whole thing down with blue Glimmer Mist, then spackled on some IndigoBlu Park Lane acrylic paint with my knife as well. Last, I dry brushed gesso all over to tone it down a bit. The metal flowers are a Prima charm. The awesome gear is a from the new embellishment by Ken Oliver. The pearl wire was a gift, as was the awesome vintage star.
I'm sharing with:
Oh Autumn this is exquisite - love it, and the sentiment is fabulous - sometimes it does take courage and faith to dream again.

OMG... the pearl wire... my eyes have seen new beauty... it's like turquoise and diamonds... rust and wood... This is a cool project, and I love that ribbon (the ticking... it looks like we call hickory fabric... almost prim...) XO
