Techniques for Dimensional Stamped Mixed Media Tags

I'm sharing an inspirational post with my teamies on the IndigoBlu blog today.  Please hop on over and see what my teammates have created for your viewing pleasure!

First I created an inky background with my new Distress Oxide inks.  I splashed on some water and removed some of the color for texture.  I stamped the amazing Blazing Poppies stamp in Denim ink onto the tag.

Next I stamped the poppies again onto some leftover inky yellow card in the same ink and fussy cut the three flowers.

I used my flower shaping tools to give the cutouts a little dimension and curl.

One of the things I love most about DOX inks is the ability to create high contrast.  I knew I wanted some glossy embossing powder, so I tried something new.  I mixed a dab of Slap-it-On with water and flecked onto my surface then covered with white embossing powder and heat set.  Though these pics just look like I've flung gesso onto my tag, in real life the contrast is amazing!

I decided my simple tag could use a mat, so I cut it down a slither then glued onto a tag cut from chipboard.  I painted the perimeter with Park Lane acrylic paint, which worked beautifully with the two DOX colors.

A simple Tim Holtz chipboard sentiment (cut down to fit) finished it off and complimented the glossy embossing.

Here you can see how I curled the flowers and raised them up with foam tape.  A great way to create dimension with simple stamping!  I hope you are inspired to break out your floral stamps today!  <3
