Hiya friends! It's time for a new challenge at Stamps and Stencils and I'm thrilled to be hostessing this month's challenge, Technique School. Join my teamies on the blog for tons of inspirational tutorials this month!
I had the pleasure to work in this ginormous chipboard journal, as a part of a journal round robin I am participating in. I very roughly gessoed the pages, then used some text stamps and washi tape to put down some base texture.
I used DecoArt Modeling Paste through the fabulous new Small Wildflowers Stencil by Darkroom Door. Next, I thinly scraped DecoArt Crackle Paste onto my panel with a palette knife. When my paste layers were dry, I mixed some DecoArt Media Fluid Acrylics with water and painted my pages. I gave some sprays of Lindy's Stamp Gang to pool and blend in. I added lots of splashes of the colors for extra dimension.
I added lots of stamping with grey, a dryed up black ink pad and some white embossing. I partially stamped the Darkroom Door Mini Calendar and French Script randomly.
The lovely owner of this journal had indicated her native american heritage, so I decided to use this little Found Relatives photo as my focal image. I added layers of Tim's new ephemera, which I sanded to grunge up a little.
My trademark flower tucks and basket filler, of course. (Look at that crackle!)
I discovered a new technique while playing with my DecoArts paints, aging embossing powder. You know, you love it but always wish it wasn't so shiny. This dulls it down. I used a UTEE type of powder here over a wooden frame. After I had set my powder, I dabbed on some Raw Umber Fluid Acrylic mixed with a touch of water using my finger. When I had covered the EP just so, I lightly heat set it again. The paint sort of melts into the EP and creates such a cool effect, ya think?
Finally, I coated some chipboard Tim Holtz wildflower die cuts with gesso and used the leftover paint and water to tint them. I love how these work with the stencil! I hope she likes my pages and also hope that you are inspired to play along with our challenge. PS. If you haven't entered the Darkroom Door Stencil Giveaway, hurry HERE.

What a stunning page - love how you prepared the base with the washi and stamping before the gesso, then even more stamping after the stenciling. Wonderful techniques and a great photo tutorial.
