It's time for a new challenge at Frilly and Funkie and our hostess Suzz has chosen the theme Most Memorable Gift. She says, "December for many of us is a time where we give and receive. That had me thinking about the most memorable gifts I have received over the years. These including a signed book from one of my favorite authors, handwritten notes from my children, a singing hot dog condiment stand and the first gift my husband gave me when we were dating. Since this is the season of giving I want you to be inspired by a memorable gift and use that to create a vintage or shabby chic project that captures the inspiration from that gift. You can make a card, a tag, share a journal entry or any kind of project you desire. Just be sure to mention the memorable gift and how it inspired your creation."
I really thought long and hard about this challenge theme. I have two most memorable gifts. The first was from my Grandmother giving me a $2 Transformer toy when I was little. We had no money at all and she wanted so desperately to give something to us. I was so moved by this small gift and thrilled to receive a BOY TOY! My mom would never let me buy boy toys. LOL! However, I couldn't quite work out a Transformer art project... Instead I chose to build a project around a single puzzle piece. <3 Just before my husband got out of the Army, we were building a puzzle together. He had to send us on ahead to SC a few weeks before he could officially leave TX. Well, he carefully packaged that puzzle and brought it to SC with him in his car and when he got home he gave me small wrapped gift that contained the last puzzle piece. He missed us so much and finished it on his own, but couldn't bear to add that last piece without me. It was one of the sweetest things he's ever done. I love you Johnny Clark! <3
I cut this oldie but goodie Tim Holtz Evergreen tree die from matboard. Thanks so much Madelyn! You're the craft queen! I used the reverse of the cut and painted it with PaperArtsy Fresco Finish Chalk Acrylics {Pewter}. I used the new PaperArtsy Stencil 067 {by Kay Carley} for and BoBunny glitter paste in silver. I embossed the edges with Stampendous Frantage embossing powder blend. I used the same EP for the star and layered with a TH Paper Snowflake die cut from metallic kraft core.
I really wish you could see this IRL, it is the most beautiful elegant combination! Linda is now carrying this paste in the shop and in a variety of colors (check the new products page)! EEK! :) I layered over Tim's Christmas paper stash.
I used a Holiday Quote Chip to top off the panel. The frame was painted with Barn Door Distress Paint and then inked with Candied Apple Distress Stain and Vintage Photo DOX. I dabbed it with Versamark and added more Frantage to give it a frosty look.
The bottom was layered with Stampendous Shaved Ice and Grit Paste to make a snowy, shimmery background. I tucked in some TH Greens dies, using pearl stickers to accent the berries.
I didn't have the bow die, but made a real bow from seam binding and layered with a TH pinecone and twine. This was so much fun to make and I'm glad to have used my hoarded TH framed panel. :) I hope you're inspired to play along for a chance to win a $25 gift certificate to the Funkie Junkie Boutique.
