Oh February! I totally love you! I absolutely love Valentine's Day and continued on making a few more cards yesterday. I've always thought there was something magical about this holiday because it focuses on handmade cards and the sentiments behind them. <3
I used the Simon Says Stamp Emma Background stamp and black embossing for my Distress Ink resist background. I used Picked Raspberry and Abandoned Coral. I used a Tutti Designs Stitched Heart die to cut out a window for my shaker.
Inside I filled it with a purchased mix of sequins and beads. Behind that an embossed sentiment and a bit lighter resist.
I decided to turn the cutout from the top card into a card of its own. This time I used Fired Brick to saturate the heart with ink, then did a very light dipping for the background, blotting away along the edges and giving it a flick of water to remove some ink, then a flick of black gesso to add some pattern to the background. <3
I just love this little stamp and use it every year! <3
For this last card, I had a pack of Echo Park paper I found for a steal and thought I would do a quickie, but honestly working with papers like this is harder for me than making my own inky papers. Isn't that weird? Anyway, I got the heart die on clearance too and wanted to make a card inspired by THIS card by Maggi Harding.
I embossed the sentiment I also got on clearance in white and used DI for the resist. I layered a second cut of glitter stock over one of the hearts in the die. I think it's a cute card, but let's just say I've put the pack of paper away for now! ;0
I was so honored to receive a comment on yesterday's card posted HERE from cardmaker extraordinaire Kathy Schweinfurth saying she had chosen my card for a blog feature she runs called Top Picks. Find Kathy's other picks HERE. So much sweet inspiration! What a great idea Kathy!

Beautiful creations Autumn, loving that shaker heart!! It's amazing how February treats us to a burst of colour bringing us out of the blueness of January. I too love February & the 14th always holds an extra special memory as it was the date my Son was due to be born.. (He was a little later than expected but worth the wait!!)
ReplyDeleteWishing you a wonderful week.. Hugs Tracey xx
Great work as always and love your choice of colour.

Gorgeous cards, love the shaker especially!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful cards Autumn - sometimes I make my own backgrounds, and other times papers work for me, but not always! Congratulations of being "top picked!"

Wow! Your' love for Valentine's Day card shows through these stunning cards, Autumn! The shaker card is just so fun, and you have inspired me to give this a try! Using the heart on your CAS card is genius, and a great two-for! Your designer paper card is gorgeous, but I totally get what you say about DP vs home made backgrounds. I always end up covering my DP with my own stuff anyway! But you really did well using that clearance heart die cut to show those fun papers off! You have been sooo busy in the craft room! Got a cryptic text from Todd last night saying I "could use the lake; call me tomorrow". Does that mean we have to stay in the lake???? Tee Hee Heart you!
ReplyDeleteWhat unique and very special cards. The shaker card is amazing, fun idea and love the bold colours and that fabulous stamp with the resist technique. Great idea to use the cut out from the first card on your wonderful second card. Do so love the sentiment on the third card and also the vibrancy of the bright pink and those papers are great...even though I am sure you would prefer to make your own x Many congratulations on being showcased and for the blog feature. I am not at all surprised as your work is stunning x
ReplyDeleteAutumn, your Valentine cards are fabulous and I especially love the ones with your own backgrounds. The Picked Raspberry and Abandoned Coral are a great color combination and your shaker card is so fun! Great use of the cut-out heart for another fabulous card. You always find great bargains, too! Hugs!!
