Simon Says Stamp Valentine Card & Verve Stamps January Sketch

Hi friends!  Happy Saturday!  I'm enjoying some free time in the studio today and pulled together a quickie for the current Simon Says Stamp Flickr challenge.  The challenge this round is to create a Valentine.  I have had the idea for a while to use the Fractile Leaves set as the pattern inside of a heart die cut and finally gave that a whirl.  It worked perfectly with the smallest Tutti Designs Stitched Hearts die.  For my background I did an embossing resist with the SSS Abstract Triangles stamp, turned sideways to mimic the lines in my hearts.  I spritzed my embossed panel with water and then dipped the edges only into watery Picked Raspberry DI, letting the colors bleed inward.  I really liked this look!  :)

After a splash of black gesso, I added a few sequins, a Tim Holtz sentiment sticker and a bundle of silver thread.

I'm also sharing my Valentine with:

I shared this card on Instagram already so I wouldn't miss the deadline, but also wanted to blog my entry for the January Viva la Verve Sketches Challenge.  I just loved Julee's sketch and needed a sympathy card.

I tried Tim Holtz's new technique for using Distress Oxides on alcohol ink cardstock, then applying Distress Glaze with the blending tool.  I have to say, I liked the panel before adding the DG and it was also hard to stamp on, even with Archival ink.

The blue was completely lost and I got camouflage!  YIKES!

But I was committed and finished it up, using Tim's Stitched Rectangles for my matting.  I decided the lower layer needed something, so after matting I ran the entire thing through the sunburst EF - ha!  It actually looked good, so there.  I'm not giving up on this technique, just need to branch out of my monochromatic tenancies.  Wish me luck!!!

  3. Both your cards are so pretty Autumn. I love that abstract triangle on the first one. That along with the colors make a romantic yet modern looking card. And the second one is spot on with the sketch. Loving the bow, faux stitching and of course your magnificent backgrounds.

  4. So so pretty Autumn, I love it when an idea comes to plan especially when it's free play time. Both cards are as stunning as each other. The first with it's vibrant colour balanced so well with the white embossing and the second with it's mixture of DOX, we would never have known it was created from a result you were not over happy with.
What a great rescue.. Wishing you a blessed Sunday HUGS Tracey xx

  10. Such loveliness in both creations, Miss Autumn. The texture in your heart background looks gorgeous! I love those wonky, criss-crossing, so perfectly placed lines with similar mosaic features in your hearts. The springy morning colors in your "let us" card are lovely, and the card is breathtakingly beautiful! Thanks for always sharing so much inspiration and happiness! hugs, de

  11. How can you be so creative? I like them both, the first is simple and bright, with a stunning background.
The second card is warmer and more in tune with my favorite colors, I think it's perfect as it is! But really, I do not know which one to choose!

  16. Absolutely amazing cards, Autumn, and if there is anyone who could get me into mixed media -- it's you! I absolutely love the second card (mostly because of the fabulous verse that so touches my heart) and also the beautiful colors and ribbon/flower! Stunning in every way, and you are such a blessing! I love about pushing through. That's what I've been doing myself and trusting the Lord for each day...a measure of healing! Much love and warm hugs! xoxo

  20. Love both of your cards, Autumn! That was cool how you used the abstract patterns on your Valentine card, great idea! I haven't tried the DOX on alcohol ink paper yet, but can't believe how much it changed yours. It was still pretty and look at the gorgeous card you made with it. Beautiful work! Hugs :-)

  22. Two stunning cards! I love that bold pink with the splashes of black! I can see why Kathy featured it in her Top Pick post! Yipppeee! Congratulations, my friend! So well deserved!

Great save on the second card! I've not heard of this technique, but I love the Micro Glaze, and it's just so much fun to get crazy looks from. (I recently did one, but didn't have time to post it to SSS's Resist It challenge. So typical of me!) Anyway, I digress; the colors are gorgeous (just used them last night--well, they're similar) and genius to add the embossing. TWO GREAT MINDS! You will have to laugh when you see what I just made! As much as I adore the bright pink and the geometrics, I have to say this one is my favorite of this pair. Sending big hugs!

  23. Yes that technique of the vibrant pink around the edges of your card looks fabulous. Love how you've put this together and the fun techniques. Such a unique and beautiful card. Thanks for experimenting with the glaze for us on the second card! Great idea too, to run the background through with the embossing folder, will be remembering that one as it's a great effect x
