Today it is my great honor to be a guest at Mixed Media Mojo for their July Summertime Fun Challenge. Honestly, this theme took me off guard! I don't typically create sea themed projects, unlike many of my awesome bloggy friends and I certainly don't have many images to use... So after some much needed cleaning of my studio, I sat down to star at my empty table and noticed my stash of found relatives. I remembered one fun beachy photo and the rest is history, literally - in this vintage spread in my cardboard junk journal.
I was inspired by this amazing sea collage of Anne's to use one of Tim's greenery dies as coral. Thanks Anne! I decided to bring some contrast by floating some white flowers through my watercolor sea, and then later added some string and text to grunge it up a bit. I have tried to keep all of my journal pages as flat as possible and though this one appears to be dimensional, it shuts quite nicely.
I used some leaf stamps from my mom's collection to stamp the "seaweed."
This particular stamp was ages old, but so fun to use! Here you see how I curl back the edges of the cardboard for added texture.
I cut the image down to work with this wooden laser cut frame. I gave it a wash of gesso and colored it to blend in. All of the watercolor was done with watercolor crayons onto gessoed surfaces. To make the splatters, I just rubbed my crayon on my craft mat and spritzed with water.
I have one spread left in this journal. I will do a recap post and hopefully a video flip through when its complete. It has truly been my favorite project for many years. Telling my story and expressing my thoughts through journaling about these vintage pics has been very rewarding. Thanks for following along.
Thank you Mixed Media Mojo for this invitation and your endless inspiration!

ReplyDeleteIt's beautiful! Love the vintage photo tucked in showing the fun at the seaside. Lovely embellishments to add to the feel, and you certainly had great inspiration with Anne's project. You've done a fantastic effort with this journal page, and especially impressive, since you say this is a bit out of your comfort zone. Certainly doesn't show that at all! TFS & Happy wkend. Hugs

ReplyDeletewooooo! Autumn, what an incredible beachy, summery, fun theme you have so masterfully put together! This photo reminds me of my parents when they were dating, and yes, they frequented the beach until my dad was in the Navy during WW2. All your oceanic flora and fauna are beautiful, and so are the textures, reminding me of dry salt spray, and the heat of the soft sand! I have pinned in my hope to do some scrapbooking in 2017. Thank you for the inspiration! Hope you are enjoying the beginning of a great week-end! hugs, de
