What time is it? It's time to get down! With Stamps & Stencils that is. Today we launch a new challenge and you are going to love it. Our hostess, Sue says, "For this challenge I would like to see anything relating to flying, so this could be a bird or a butterfly or it could be an inspirational quote that includes words relating to flying ! As always, please remember we are a mixed media challenge and you must include either stamping or stenciling or both!" What fun!
I shared the tutorial on this rolled reverse canvas with you HERE, so do pop over if you'd like a refresher. During the class I started this one and it has sat on my desk for weeks, waiting to be finished. I had forgotten where I was going with it. Does anyone else do things like that? Well, I came across my initial sketch and was reminded. I peeled my canvas back a tad too much, so I used texture paste on the wood frame and colored it with the same watercolors. I sprayed the background images's edges with Glimmer Mist to help it blend in.
This wooden chippie got a makeover with gold, copper, and Distress tea stain embossing powders. I love the variegated look! That beautiful scrunchy paper in the background looks like handmade paper, but is simply mop up paper. I had some left over Lumiere paint on my table and mixed it with water so I could cover a scrap of manilla. I scrunched it up over and over while it was wet and the shimmer went deeply into the cracks. I will be intentionally making this again!
The colors on this project are my favorite part.
Some Prima flowers and string for embellies. I added some embossing in white because I really wanted to stamp something, what with using all of those digital images. :)
The greenery die is by Verve stamps.
You can find these butterflies on my Pinterest board, Printables. I really had fun with this. And I would love to feature your project on my blog if you've created a canvas from my tutorial. Just leave me a comment. <3
Autumn, you have just officially made my day with this lovely creation! I love all those mixed media details, and the digitally made butterflies provide the contrast. That stenciling around the frame is gorgeous with it's watery wash, and the chippie is scrumptious! Great background paper--sometime the simplest things give us the greatest pleasure! I would love to hang this beauty in my home! LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it, and believe it's my new favorite! Big hugs, my friend!
