Ahhh Distress Oxide! Below are some of my inky background experiments. I'm still playing and finding new ways to use these new ink pads.
Making my own backgrounds is my absolute favorite thing to do! After accumulating a good stash I decided to take it a step further and create a finished card. My backgrounds were all done on heavy watercolor card. I embossed it with an embossing folder and sanded the raised areas to get this look. I was surprised at how well the sanding worked, perhaps it is because the DOX sits on the surface of the paper more so than regular DI, because it's chalky or pigmented.
I cased this card from the lovely Audrey Pettit. I just had to recreate her beautiful project substituting DOX for her embossing techniques and my lovely new Fine Flowers Vol. 2 stamp set by Darkroom Door.
I tried the no line watercolor, first in yellow and green direct to rubber. After I watercolored it, I felt it needed some contrast, so I overstamped in Vintage Photo. I don't have a MISTI, so the stamping was off some and I went with it, and rather like that look.
Below I'm sharing another embossing folder test. This is an inky DOX background with regular DI applied to the embossing folder, lightly spritzed with water, and run through the machine. I tried DOX directly to the folder the same way and didn't like it as well. The beauty of DOX backgrounds is the ability to layer regular DI over it and maintain the oxidized look. These two types of pads work so beautifully together!

One of my very favorites of yours Autumn. No idea why except it just makes me want to reach out and touch it and preserve it forever. It's so "innocent". So peaceful but still alive. It's so elegant but yet earthy. It's WONDERFUL! Xj.
Oooh gorgeous, Autumn, I do love all that I've seen made created with oxides and can't wait till they're here in Oz at affordable prices.... wonderful! Love the layering of colours.

You are making me wish the month away huni lol! Not just you but everyone who has these ink pads, very jealous! Your stamped flower and the line up is not an issue it looks spot on to me. Thank you for your very sweet words, I'm still a bit uncertain with the MM but I love trying out the new and different things. I have been having a messy blast with my alcohol inks for the last two days and hope to get something finished and ready to share next week. Have a good weekend lovely lady and keep sharing your experiments, I feel like your sharing will mean I'll get to grips with the DOX when I have the money to purchase them next month xx
This is fabulous, love your use of the DI Oxide and I am actually going to try mine out today. Love your result, I just know I will mess up somewhat but practice makes perfect I am told. Autumn, you are going to laugh so hard when you see my next post! I swear, I have not seen your post before, and last night I googled something--for an unrelated technique and came to this same post by Audrey. I instantly fell in love, and ran to my Closet. I can never case something exactly, as I get off on my own little rabbit trail. I didn't even check to see what she used other than the flower! But, ha, ha, I have my version coming soon to a blog near you!
That history behind us, I have to say how amazing your version of her card turned out! I love your sanded background--how clever and what a fabulous result! (I thought to do this, but took a different path on my trail :)) Your flower is gorgeous! I seriously wished I had visited your lovely blog before making my card, but mine is what it is! Yours is BRILLIANT and one of my all time favorites of yours! Sending hugs!
