Umbrella Man Distress Oxide Stenciled Tag

Happy Saturday!  For the first time in months I haven't had tons of things to do this weekend.  I cleaned house for hours, did my nails, sat idly and soaked up the nothingness.  I'm a busy bee with four kiddos and my design team work, oh and that full time job thingie.  Yeah, it's easy to get downtrodden when you never have a moment.  That's why I took a few moments the other night to just let go and do something fun and spontaneous.  My generous and inspirational friend Sara Emily had lovingly sent me some happy mail, which included a few cutouts of this guy I've been pining over.  He makes me so happy right now!

My friend Zsuzsa has been doing some amazing work with her gelli plate and I broke down and ordered one used for $20.  I was anxious to see what effects I could get with it using Distress Oxides.  I patted my DOX over the plate, then laid on this new Tim Holtz stencil, using the tip of a paint brush to press the stencil fully to pick up the ink.  I gave it a spritz of water and then pressed my watercolor panel onto it.

Look at this DOXic mess!  He he!  :)  Maybe I could do this with a craft sheet, but it was fun to get out that gelli and just play.  I decided to sponge Black Soot on the white areas.

You all know I have been obsessing with embossing powder for some while.  I discovered that layering Distress EP under regular EP creates some amazing texture.  For this guy, I used Walnut Stain DEP, then layered over regular black, then bronze.  What a cool variegated effect!  It's rusty, textured, uneven and I'm thrilled with it.

I don't have a lot of TH background stamps like text and script, etc.  I decided to use parts of this sweet girl.  See how I partially inked her.

The other stamp is a cool label Tim created that is a vintage rubber stamp company label - love it!

I added scribbles around the edge of the tag with a fine pen.

I used Tim's new Quote Chips for the sentiment.  I dabbed my DOX onto it then spritzed with water to get that marbled look.  I peeled part of the chipboard off so it would be more flexible and curled it over my bundle.  The staples helped hold it down and just look cool.  A wad of string (of course) and a couple of Tim's cogs - the end.  YAY!

This tag is fabulous Autumn. I too bought my first Gelli Plate this week and I think it's definitely going to get a lot of use. I used it for the first time today and I love it. The die cut here works beautifully with the background, it looks amazing. Crafty hugs, Sandra x

Oh, dear me! How did I ever miss this lovely? I think I must have missed March--where did it go??? Anywho, this is amazing Autumn, and I had a little giggle at the gelli plate, because I also just broke down and bought one at Michael's the other day with a 50% coupon (of course!). It's another brand, but I'm sure it will do the same thing. Soooo....I love that you experimented with it, and got such awesome results! And so happy you could use the Umbrella Man (he's lookin' might-tee fine!). Thanks for the shout out! Now, I need to go back and actually read this word for word. Sending hugs!
