Hand Lettering and Mixed Media

card 1
I started playing, just going wild with my mixed media supplies this weekend.  I really needed a stress-free project, a lot on my mind these days.  Today marks the start of my new design team post with Stamps & Stencils and Cec has chosen "Oh So Blue" as the theme this month.  Although I did try to incorporate as much of the color blue into my project as possible, I went more with the emotional side of this theme.
card 2
I piled up several papers that sort of went together, then added some stencil paste through this awesome rose stencil.  When I love how the paste picked up the ink sprays, but not the glossy papers.  I added some UTEE over, that's the hint of sparkle you see in this pic.
card 3
I didn't have a stamp that suited my desired sentiment, so I decided to do some watercolor lettering.  I've been following @randomolive on Instagram and ever single post she adds with her lovely brush style lettering gets my creative juices flowing.  I plan on purchasing her practice guides (a great price of $27 for 45 days worth of practice with video tutorials, etc.) found on her site HERE.
card 4
A friend saved this cool packaging fill and I thought it would make a great layer, plus it gave a cool pattern to the paper beneath when I sprayed it.
card 5
I tucked in some vintage lace and added some gemstones.  I saw on a YouTube video that you should layer both paper and fabric flowers when spraying because they each accept the inks differently, so I did that here and really loved the contrast.  Click the photos to enlarge.  All in all, I really enjoyed getting messy for this Oh So Blue challenge.  We'd love to have you play along with us at Stamps and Stencils.

Autumn, so many layers & fabrics, and each one compliments the other so nicely. This is an interesting and lovely mix of pattern, texture & techniques (and anything with lace & sprays grabs my attention!). Good job on your first dt project on this challenge. Love all the colors & such a pretty stencil too. TFS & Hugs (brave you to hand letter that sentiment. That looks great as well).

I've missed so much even since the new year, but I've so enjoyed the visit back to your blog. Your idea of taking the word "blue" and putting the emotional meaning to it was such a great idea. Your creation is so touching and thoughtful. I also had a blast perusing the posts I've missed. Can't wait to see what else you crank out for 2016.
hugs,

Amber, I love that you've put your heart in to this challenge of blue, by displaying the chosen color as an emotion rather than the color in the tangible sense. Your card is awesome with all those textures, and I have a happy place in my heart for the packaging. A friend gave me some of her similar stuff, and I used the daylights out of it at Halloween. I was up in her attic the other day, and was eyeballing a bin of it she has stashed there! Tee Hee! Well done on the hand lettering! I'm afraid it wouldn't do for me; my handwriting is atrocious ! I probably need to take the course! Hugs!

Love how you have used lots of layers to get a wonderful effect. The use of packaging and other pieces is really close to my heart - love using something unexpected in my art too, and loving your brush style of lettering - it came out amazingly well, well done! Thanks for joining us on our first challenge - blue - at More Mixed Media Challenge. Michelle, DT xx

Love your "messy" mixed media make - I think it's fantastic with all the layers and the way different elements have taken the colour differently. Beautiful lettering too - a lovely debut at Stamps and Stencils, Autumn.
