Collage Pocket File Folder Folio Video Tutorial

Hello dear friends! I've been diving back into collage again and am excited to share a new video tutorial with you on a fun fold file folio, with loads of pockets to fill 'til your heart is content!

I used a few digitals I had on hand, the main elements were a freebie from the JJ with Joy FB group, given by Junk With Steph. I bought a set of background papers just to make the process quicker. All of the background pages were from the My Porch Prints Basic Journal kit from Etsy. I printed them as is and just cut them to the size of my finished folio.

Here I used an exacto to trace and cut a circle die to make a window, then cut the same circle with the next larger circle to make the frame, which shows the bee on the tag and then the bird on the page beneath. :)

I embellished the finished journal with lots of stitching, washi stickers and Tim Holtz washi tape.

I also added several of Tim's sentiment stickers, all creating motivational quotes throughout.

I used Darkroom Door Postmarks stamps over the images on most pages.

And how about that gorgeous feather? My daughter found it on a trail this fall. It's at least a foot long, such a treasure!

This tag may be my favorite because of the sheep image. I am always drawn to them.

Ephemera Folios from File Folders Tutorial

Hello friends! Today I have an upcycled file folio tutorial to share with you. This basic four section pocket folder can be used for many purposes, such as photo storage, journaling or as a mini book. I'm using mine to store fussy cut ephemera collections, mainly the Fruits and Flowers Fussy Cut Collection and Herbs and Spices Fussy Cut Collection by Junk with Steph (digital designs). I recently joined the Junk with Steph design team, simply because I adore her images and wanted to get to play!

My only problem is that these are ADDICTIVE! I can't stop printing and cutting and I needed a way to store my new ephemera for easy access, hence the file folio concept. I hope to create new folios for different kits in the future and have a full collection.

Here are the basic cutting & scoring steps: Start with a center tabbed file folder. Score 2.5" from top and bottom (while folded). Score down the middle at 4.5". Cut away small slits between the bottom panels to form pockets.

(Sorry the image below is upside down, but you will get the idea.) Cut the third panel on top and bottom 1.5" from score line. Cut away on the score line of the 1, 2 and 4th panel.

For my folio, I used an old typed prayer book to cover the folder panels and some old 6x6" scrapbook paper to cover the pocket flaps. This size of folio is perfect to use up your 6x6" paper stash. I stitched around the first and last panel and added a few college elements.

I used washi tape, a bit of Tim Holtz ephemera, vintage postage stamps from my collection and rubber stamp cancellations from the Darkroom Door Global Postmarks set. I LOVE this stamp set!

File Folder Mini Album with PaperArtsy Lynne Perrella Stamps and Infusions

Thank you so much for your bloggy love and support for my PaperArtsy feature and Where Bloggers Create studio tour! You guys are the best and make my life happy! This weekend I had a little getaway with some artsy friends and went wild creating backgrounds and trying out some new mini album construction. This album was made from small file folders that were pretty thick. We cut them down to the long format.

First, I gessoed the pages lightly in the center. I love leaving the edges without gesso because it absorbs the color differently and creates a frame. Next, I dipped the pages into watered down Distress Ink puddles, drying between colors. Here's a close up of me adding some Infusions over the dried background. Instant earthiness and texture!

I used a variety of stamps to create my backgrounds. Mostly, I used Versafine colored inks because they are permanent. I tried stamping with Distress, but it took a long time to dry.

I stamped out a variety of Lynne Perrella ladies onto tissue and glued them over my background panels. I also used some rub-ons.

I made a few extra sheets of inked card to work with. The outlines were done with Distress Crayons and water. Here's another shot of those Infusions working their magic!

I truly wanted to use stamps in this book as the focus. So many times I feel like I use "gimmicks," rather than strong focal images in my work. I decided not to add any embellishments or fluff here and let the stamps do the talking. Do you think this is too old school? Do you agree that we use a lot of fluff to make our statements these days?

I did some faux stitching with a Sharpie to bring out some of the images.

I used a white Galaxy pen to create some highlights, along with gesso splashes.

All bound together with twine.

Layer after layer of stamping for dimension, rather than 3D elements.

A closeup of the tissue paper edge so you can see how that works out. The blue is slightly lighter in the harlequin under the tissue.

Lynn, I love and adore them and will put them to good use! My friends here bought a couple of the other sets and now we can have a party with these girls!
