Embossing Resist and Mixed Media Card Making

 

Hey friends!  I'm back today to share a fun set of cards using an embossing resist technique I learned from Tami Bastiaan years and years ago.  I started by making an inky background with Distress Inks in Worn Lipstick and Vintage Photo and dried that panel thoroughly before clear embossing the entire Typewriter Keys Caps Alpha stamp set onto the panel. 

Then I went in with lots more Vintage Photo over that and it resisted the lighter clear embossing, showing the pink through!  So fun!  I did not iron off the EP like Tami has done, but I did cut it into a mini file folder with my paper cutter.  I layered it over a background made with the same inks over my brand new Faith Definitions 2 stamp set I designed for Creative Worship Stamps!  If you've enjoyed Faith Definitions set 1, you will love this set and how well it works with various holidays/events, let alone your journaling.  Take notw how I first stamped my definitions in Wendy Vecchi's Tree Bark Archival Ink onto my Bristol panel, then dipped it in the inks.  The oil in the Archival inks acts as a bit of a resist too and I love how the ink pooled around the definitions!

To finish out the card I layered a die cut Polaroid Frame, stamped with the Vintage Snippets stamps.  

I made a second panel with a different background stamping the Flower Burst Background Clear Stamp in WV Fern Green Archival Ink with the same ink dipping.  I used the numbers strip from the Typewriter Keys Caps Alpha stamp set and the Polaroid Frame die, this time stamping it with the Faith Definitions 2 and staining the center cut out with Peeled Paint DI.  Both cards feature watercolored images from the Hope Blooms Stamp and Die Bundle and the birthday sentiment from the Wordfetti Mash-up sentiments.  

My next card uses the same embossing resist background technique with the Typewriter Keys Caps Alpha stamp set.  I added more inks over the piece using Distress Inks in Seedless Preserves and Wild Honey.  I overstamped with my Faith Definitions 2 stamp set.  I layered onto a wadded up panel stamped with the Vintage Ledger Page stamp.

I layered with an inky panel using the same colors and white embossed a sentiment from Timeless Hymns.  I layered over a little ticket from the new Spring Collage Tag set.  Finally I added a butterfly from Vintage Butterflies Blooms.  I hope you're inspired to try this resist technique and enjoy it!  xx, Autumn

Creative Worship Stamps Handmade Card Ideas

 

Hi everyone!  I'm back with a new round of inspiration for you featuring beautiful faith art stamps by Creative Worship Stamps, formerly Sweet 'N Sassy Stamps.  For my first card, I enjoyed dipping a Bristol panel in Distress Inks in Peacock Feathers and Blueprint Sketch.

I stamped the gorgeous sentiment from the Hymn Word Art set in VersaFine Clair Warm Breeze and decided to have a little birdie carrying the word banner, so I stamped the bird from the Nature Silhouettes 4 set and drew some little ribbons around the banner he's holding.  I finished by stamping some of the floral silhouettes from the same set along the bottom in black and used a Posca paint pen to highlight them a little.  

For my next card, I repeat stamped the flowers from the Colors of Fall stamp set, fussy cutting one of the images.  I watercolored the flowers with deep magenta and warm oranges, then the background with olive.  

I stamped the 1 Corinthians 13 text stamp from the With Love stamp set in Antique Linen for texture at the top and on a separate piece I had also watercolored olive green.  I stamped All My Love from the same set onto that piece and mounted it with a wrapped twine bow. 

You may have seen the bee from this Botanical Collages stamp set in my last post.  I'm going to work through each image in the set.  For this card I focused on the bird, isn't he sweet?!  I watercolored him and cut the panel into an upside down tag.  I mounted over a piece I had embossed with aqua embossing powder using the Delightfully Delicate background stamp and then dipped into Distress Inks in Evergreen Bough and Antique Linen.  

I mounted the tag over a die cut Delicate Doily.  I just love this die!  I really hope these cards have inspired you today and you'll take a peek at the gorgeous stamps from Creative Worship Stamps.  xx, Autumn

Sweet 'N Sassy Stamps Hope Word Art and Wildflower Release

 

I'm honored to be a guest designer for Sweet 'N Sassy Stamps this month and have had a wonderful time getting inky with the new release!  For my first card I've combined the absolutely gorgeous Be A Wildflower stamps and coordinating dies with the Hope Word Art stamps.  

I did an embossing resist using Distress Inks in Picked Raspberry, Twisted Citron and Squeezed Lemonade.  I absolutely LOVE this promise and hope it brings you joy today!  I masked off the top element of so it would fit better with my flower arrangement.

Next I used the gorgeous Be A Wildflower stamps & dies again with Distress Inks in Blueprint Sketch and Squeezed Lemonade for another embossing resist.  

I'm really into blue and yellow these days as a reminder to pray for Ukraine.  To get the halo effect in the background, I used a makeup type of ink blending brush in a circular motion, but then sprayed and blotted the whole blended panel and added splashes of Blueprint Sketch, watered gesso and plain water in layers.  

Next, I did a little monoprinting fun with the fabulous Floral Doily stencil by using Distress Oxide in Shaded Lilac.  I fussy cut the doily and layered over another inky panel made with SL and Wilted Violet, on which I stamped a sentiment from the God is Good stamp set.  

Atop of the doily, I layered flowers from the gorgeous new release Be A Wildflower stamps & dies.  I especially love the sprigs of greenery included in this stamp set!  I really hope these cards have inspired you to get inky today.  xx, Autumn

Tracy Evans AALL & Create Accordion Mini Book

 

Hi friends!  Today I have a new accordion mini album to share with you from my second time working through Tracy Evans' Accordion Book Workshop.  I made Tracy's album very similar to her original in the live class several years ago, posted HERE.  It's always great fun to take one of Tracy's classes, which you can join through her FB group HERE.  

For the covers of my book, I used an Eileen Hull die.  My insides were a little too thick, so I added a button closure.  I used PaperArtsy Fresco Chalk Acrylics in Hint of Mint, Sargasso and Blue Jeans.  I've created a little flip through on YouTube HERE.  

 

For my pages, I used Distress Oxides in Cracked Pistachio, Shaded Lilac, Faded Jeans and Salvaged Patina.  I added in some Squeezed Lemonade Distress Ink for the pops of yellow.

My mom and I worked through this class together and it was a lot of fun.  I ended up making two similar books rather than decorating the backsides of my accordion and will try to share book two with you soon.

Art by Marlene May Flower Challenge Mixed Media Tags

Hello darlings!  I've been having some creative abandon playtime for the May Flower Challenge by Art by Marlene.  These are projects outside of my normal grungy style and I find it freeing to let loose and try new things this way.  If you're not a member, I'd urge you to join the ABM Creatives Facebook group HERE for lots of inspiration and various challenges.  And make sure to follow me in Instagram for my daily posts @sewpaperpaint.  This tag is for day three, Happiness.  I'm sharing a video tutorial HERE.

The main flower is from Marlene's newest release, ABM-SI-STAMP405.  I colored with Prism Brush Markers.  The stitching is from ABM-ESSTAMP77.  The words "happy happy" are from the blowfish stamp set STAMPBM67.  I created the background by embossing the stencil ABM-OOTW-MASK44 in white and then sponging Distress Oxides in Mustard Seed and Spiced Marmalade.  I finished with the scalloped washi tape, AMB-SI-WASH08 and a stamped bird from 2022 Advent Calendar.

And here is my day one tag for the Flower Power theme, which I made with Distress Oxides in Mustard Seed, Worn Lipstick, Wilted Violet, Peacock Feathers and Twisted Citron.  The video tutorial can be found HERE.  

The main flower is from the same stamp set as above, ABM-SI-STAMP405.  The floral border stencil is ABM-SI-MASK185.  And the embossed white foliage and dots are from ABM-BB-STAMP122.  The sentiment here is from a Tim Holtz sticker.

And here is my tag for day two, Pastels.  This video tutorial can be found HERE.  

The main flower is from ABM-BB-STAMP122.  I used aqua glitter embossing powder for the leaves die cut from ABM-SI-CD505 and clear glitter EP for the flower, which add a nice textured sparkle.  The background was done by sponging craft paint through ABM-ES-MASK70, a favorite stencil.  The text is a Studio Light Essential stamp, SL-ES-STAMP369.  I finished with Marlene's Rub-Ons and adhesive pearls by JMA.

Studio Light Lily of the Valley Stamp Slimline Cards

 

Hi friends!  Today I have a couple of simple slimline cards to share with you featuring the new Studio Light Grunge Collection Lily of the Valley stamp (SL-GR-STAMP395).  What an incredibly beautiful stamp it is!  I could not stop with one card and enjoyed coloring two panels in different colorways.  My Grandmother and I always sang together and one of our favorites was, "He's the Lily of the Valley, the Bright and Morning Star.  He's the fairest of ten thousands to my soul.  He will never, ever leave me, nor forsake me still, if I live by faith and do His blessed will."  Such sweet memories...

For my first card, I created a background of Tea Stain and Victorian Velvet Distress Inks.  I really love these colors against the soft greens.  

I used an older Grunge Collection Cutting Die set (SL-GR-CD198) to cut my coloring panels from Bristol.  I love the jagged edge of these dies.  

For my next card, I used a palette of watercolors.  I picked a deep purple to contrast with rich greens.  

Next time I'll have to do some fussy cutting of these very delicate flowers for a more mixed media look, but I love the fact that these stamps can be used "as is" without much else needed.  I hope you've enjoyed these cards today and you'll check out the entire new Grunge Collection.  xx, Autumn
