Family Circle Mixed Media Cardboard Junk Journal Layout

page 1

Today begins a new challenge at Stamps and Stencils.  I decided I would finish my cardboard junk journal.  I am happy to have finished such a massive project, but sad that it is over because truly this has been my favorite project.  As promised, I created a YouTube video flip through to share with you.  I hope to improve this skill and share more videos in the future.

Tic Tac Toe

Our host this month is Toni, with this fantastic tic tac toe board.  Toni says, "This month I'm challenging you to have a little mixed media fun, with a game of Tic Tac Toe. Create a project that includes at least three  of the elements from the table below, chosen from either a vertical, horizontal or diagonal line. Remember, to include some stamping or stenciling."

page 2

I chose the center elements: tissue, circles and embossing.  I will share a short video with you tomorrow of how I made the circle chipboards.  For this journal, I wanted to keep the layers relatively flat, but I can imagine using this style of circles in a very dimensional project and having them layered one upon another.  The stamps on the circles are by PaperArtsy and the background are Prima.

page 3

To distress the Tim Holtz found relatives photo, I folded the corners and sanded them.  For a large photo, this appears more realistically worn.  The background was created using watercolor crayons.

page 4

Some hidden journaling tucked in behind the burlap layer.

page 5

I finally tried out Prima's Christine Adolph adhesive words with foil.  This is so fun and pretty!

3 Minute Video

Let me know what you think!  I'd love to hear tips on the video process and your thoughts on my book as a whole.
I'm also sharing my junk journal with:

Lots of love & details on this pretty page. I like the brighter shades of color with the tones of the photo. The distressed edges do show very nicely I thought, and the journaling behind the burlap...very decorative accent. Congratulations on finishing your project. It's awesome. TFS & stay cool.

You are such an inspiring artist, Autumn! Every single journal page speaks volumes. You've included so many tiny details, stenciling, stamping, layering and artistic elements, each and every one lovely and unique. This journal is truly a treasure. Thanks so much for sharing this with us at The Frilly and Funkie Blog! You mentioned Sara Emily lives in SC also... I think the three of us meeting is the best idea ever!! I'm friends with Sara Emily on Facebook, but I can't find you. If you're on Facebook you can find me as Nancy Border Dynes (there's a link on my blog). Send me a friend request and I'll private message you my email and phone number.

Your last journal page is brilliant, Autumn, although I am a bit sad it's the last. Kind of like finishing a great novel, so sad to be done. Your video, I have to confess, brings tears to my eyes! (Still) Your work is lovely on your blog, but this video brings such emotion to it. I am moved! Hugs!

Another gorgeous page Autumn! And I do appreciate how much work went into the video... I felt the first few pages were a bit hurried (each photo could have benefited of 4-5 seconds extra screen time) but otherwise it looked great, as did the book. Fabulous work!
