Altered Mixed Media Frame with Found Relatives

frame 1

I am thrilled beyond measure to be a guest designer today for A Vintage Journey and their fabulous challenge "Create Inside a Frame."  I am a frame hoarder and could not wait to alter one of my frames for this challenge.  I've shared all the inky details of my background process on my A Vintage Journey post, so do click on over and read about this fun process.

frame 2

Here's a glimpse of the before.  Don't worry, I have saved this handwritten parchment and will incorporate it in a collage in the future, well of course I will!

frame 3

Some of the details of my fall embellishment bundle.  The die under the flowers (can somebody help me name this?) is a recent score at Tuesday Morning and is by Darcie's.

frame 4

The beautiful flowers are by Recollections, from Michaels.  I've used Sizzix dies for the clock, the branch, the frame, and the tattered leaves.

frame 5

The branch is painted with IndigoBlu metallic copper paint.  It is the most wonderful color!!!  I used splashes of it with their gold paint as well.

frame 6

In just the right light you can see the base colors peeking through the layered white gesso, this is my favorite section.  I really had a blast working on this altered frame.  The Found Relatives photo from Tim Holtz was the perfect focal image.  Thank you A Vintage Journey creative guides for having me today!

Beautiful framed art, Autumn! I am amazed by your ability to layer color, making for such depth and texture! So delicious! Your vintage groupings make up a lovely autumn design! My favorite detail is the splatter of paint that incorporates the frame into your artwork--breathtaking! Congratulations on your well deserved guest designer post with A Vintage Journey! They are lucky to have you!

I love that prayer! Big hugs to you!

Oh, Autumn, once again I absolutely love your beautiful framed art piece. You have such a gift to alter a plain frame and make it (transform it) into something beautiful and interesting, and amazing! What a wonderful handwritten parchment you found in that frame. I look forward to seeing how you will use that. Hugs, dear friend! xoxo

This is absolutely beautiful Autumn. I really like the use of the clock on the image, as for me, it signifies the passing of time which is just perfect for this vintage piece with its sepia photograph. Your background is wonderful too and there are just so many things of interest to look at. Many congratulations on your GDT role, you've done them proud. Enjoy your weekend. Sandra X

It's such a stunningly beautiful creation, Autumn - full of nostalgia and that very special kind of melancholy sweetness of the last days of summer. I think you've done a great job on warming the tone of the frame itself too. Thank you so much for another amazing guest project.

Congrats on your GD spot and the vintage theme is one of my faves too :) I am impressed with this stunning altered frame and the subtle colors and also the texture are truly amazing my friend. I too frame up my layout in a frame like that on my wall but may I know how do you keep it away from dust and cobwebs? I dust away mine like once a month. The dust keep coming, lol. Glad you joined STAMPlorations September Mixed Media Challenge and see you next time.
