Butterfly Burlap Canvas with Distress Oxide and Embossing Folders

I was ever so lucky to meet up with the beautiful and creative Marty of Merry Marty's Cards this weekend.  Marty and her sister Gail were the most welcoming and kind souls and our visit was a pure delight!  We had so many shared interests and could have talked for hours!  Marty, thank you so very much for taking the time out to meet me!  I just love you and hope to do it again soon!

I wanted to make Marty a little giftie for our visit, so I pulled out my stash of Distress Oxide backgrounds from one of my play sessions.  First I cut out the oval, then I embossed the remainder with an older embossing folder.  I sanded it to reveal some of the pattern better.  Now, I tried this sanding with some of my regular Distress Ink backgrounds and it doesn't work as beautifully as with DOX.

I raised the oval up a lot to make it more dimensional.  Mounting it onto a second cutout from thin chipboard helps.  I inked one of Tim's new chipboard sentiments to coordinate.

I stamped the Eclectic Butterfly by Darkroom Door onto another bit of DOX paper and fussy cut.  The butterfly is layered over basket filler.  My bow was inked with similar DOX and I adhered purchased flowers to complete the look.

I wish I had embossed the butterfly in dark brown EP, but Marty loved the worn look the DOX gave to it.  I mounted my work onto a purchased burlap canvas, using Tim's long brads to secure.  I hope you are inspired by this simple project today!

Wow, what a fabulous canvas, love how you have used the Distress oxides on the die cut and the butterfly, I had seen the basket filler used on cards before and had no idea what it was, thanks for that information!

Hey Autumn! I am slowly plowing through the emails and trying to catch up, but wanted to tell you how much Gail and I enjoyed meeting and visiting with you! Although we just met, it was like we've known you for years :-) You are such a sweetie and just adorable and we hope to meet up again :-) Thank you so much for the gifts, especially this beautiful canvas and Gail's card (which will both be on a future blog post of mine). The pictures do not do this beautiful piece justice. It is beautiful and you know I love the colors and distress look and your beautiful flowers and bows. Oh, you know I love everything you do, Autumn! Hugs to you and thank you again, my friend :-)

OK, I'm picking my jaw up from the floor right now, and wiping drool from my chin. Holy canoli, Autumn, this is BEAUTIFUL! I'd drive 400 miles to pick up one of these canvas'! The colors are so rich and the texture on the background---LOVE! I was just thinking to myself late last night that I'm not sure the Oxides and I have quite the relationship I thought I would have. But YOU have mastered these little squares of marvelous color! I NEED some serious playtime with you teaching me how to make such wonderful art! Pinned to my all time favorites! Big hugs, my friend! Lucky Marty and Gail, to have met you in person!
