Poinsettia and Plaid Distress Christmas Card


You should know that I have pined over The Funkie Junkie's 12 Tags of Christmas week 4 tag like no other!  I just couldn't purchase the die set Linda used right now, sigh...  But what to do!?  I have about a zillion poinsettia stamps and none of them seemed to be what I wanted for this project.  So after three weeks of nonstop mental debate I sat down to make a card using what I have.  Actually, this has always been a self-proclaimed talent of mine.  I haven't always had a studio filled to the brim with good things, it has been a long road (with lots of hard work!) and has taken me 17 years to accumulate a generous supply of stamps and supplies.  I digress...


I was enamored with Linda's white and red with a touch of plaid.  I decided to make a side panel with one of my Tim Holtz Christmas sets using the tiny poinsettia.  What a mess!  For some reason using Crushed Berries and Fired Brick stains your fingers like no other ink combo!  And then my family yells let's go out to dinner!  So I go to pizza buffet with fiery red fingertips!  I have no shame!


Anyway, I used a Wendy Vecchi plaid stamp on the other side.  Only my fingers were so inky from the resist that I got fingerprints all over my plaid!  Yikes!  Never reink just before stamping...  So I used my Colorbox stylus (blending tool) to smooth out the fingerprints before they dried.  I added some Vintage Photo to try to work the look.


I made my own flowers and used pearls for the centers, which I like very much.  I could not decide upon a sentiment and in the end went with this beautiful and favorite Verve stamp.  How utterly joyous!  I was so pleased that the Ornate Frame die worked around it so well.  I punched some greenery with a McGill punch to finish her off.  Thank you Linda for the very encouraging challenge!  It feels good to triumph over this card!  :)  I hope you all like it.

DIY Rustic Home Decor with Scripture Stamps


We have another inspiring challenge for you at Anything But Cute!  Our hostess Niki has chosen the theme Rustic Glam.  She says, "Create a mixed media design featuring rustic elements such as whitewashed wood, chicken wire, burlap, soft subtle tones and neutrals. Don't forget to add the GLAM part with some sparkle and BLING!"  




I decided to make a little collage to frame and began by gessoing and stenciling some chipboard with a Tim Holtz stencil.  I used Lindy's sprays to color my panel.  I added some subtle stamping, splashes and gold embossing along the edges.


I used clear gesso over some flat purchased flowers, then gave them a light spray of the same inks and bunched them up roughly to tuck between my layers.


A great tip when you're doing a paper bundle like this is to arrange all of your layers and then staple them together so you can still tuck things in the open ends.


I added this Verve scripture stamp in gold as my focal point.


I've had this frame for ages and painted it grey, then distressed it to reveal the wood underneath.  It's quite thick and is perfect to create a shadow box effect.


I mixed some mod podge with some vintage glitter and sequins and brushed that on randomly.  I added some bits of crocheted lace here and there, as well as some pearls for the glam factor.


The colors aren't very lively, but are much nicer in person.

Mary and Child Inky Christmas Card


Happy November everyone!  I'm still going at it with my Christmas card making.  I'm not sure if this card really came together as I had hoped, but the individual pieces really make me happy, so here it is.  I started by sponging Distress ink onto a tag, then stamping with an old Stampington & Company stamp.  The splashes of water add a lot of interest.  I really loved this panel!  But somehow decided not to make a tag and cut it down for this card.


I embossed the IndigoBlu vintage scroll in copper onto kraft and sponged brown over the edges.  I layered with a Fiskars punched border, sponged as well.  The pine branch dies are cut from copper kraft core paper.  I layered several flat Prima flowers together to make this one dimensional flower.  The Madonna stamp is also by Stampington.  How's your Christmas card making going?  Do tell.

Upcycled Phone Box Turned Mixed Media Gift Box


We have an exciting new challenge for you at Stamps and Stencils today with our lovely host Cec.  She's chosen the theme Tags, Bags & Boxes!  Cec says, "With Christmas coming up and the gift buying underway, we are going to need something to wrap them in.  Let's make some mixed media tags, bags & boxes that will be as treasured by the recipient as the gift itself.  Don't forget to include some stamping or stenciling."  Isn't that a wonderful concept?!  Thank you Cec!


I've saved this Samsung Galaxy phone box for ages because of the beautiful woodgrain design.  I used white gesso to cover the logo, then texture paste through a DIY stencil.  To make my stencil I cut a Tim Holtz die from recycled plastic sheet.  Talk about a cheapie project!  Anyway, I used Lindy's sprays to color the texture paste, adding some drips for interest.  I also dripped on Prima Color Bloom in gold.


The Lindy's spray was quite magenta!  I thought it would be more red, so I had to make a flower to coordinate.  I used two large and five medium tattered floral cutouts.  I gave the flower another splash of gold.


I added several die cuts and some gold ribbon for a festive touch.


The metallic brown dies tie back into the box's seam.  I hope you are inspired to celebrate with us!
