Studio Light Grunge and Marlene Crazy Birds Slimline Cards

Hi friends!  I've been making a few mini slimline cards over the past few months and decided to share the batch with you today.  I've enjoyed the slightly elongated shape and find these minis are quick and easy to create.  For my first one, I dipped a Bristol panel into Distress Oxides in Cracked Pistachio, Squeezed Lemon, Orange Marmalade and Worn Lipstick.  I carefully bent the paper and dipped just a stripe into the watered inks and used my finger or water spray to blend them lightly.  I used the Romantic Florals stamp set from Art by Marlene's Bold and Bright collection (ABM-BB-STAMP124) to stamp a floral pattern in the same color across each section.  I splattered the inky panel with bright colors of acrylic paint.  Next I used my new favorite stamp, the owl from the Crazy Birds stamp set from the Back to Nature collection (ABM-BTN-STAMP147).  I watercolored him in the same Distress Oxidess with the addition of Wilted Violet, which I also used to color the balloon from an older stamp set (Marlene's World collection A Windy Day (STAMPBM68).

Once I incorporated a balloon into my project I went crazy!  I wanted all of the Crazy Birds to hold balloons!  LOL!  My mom wanted us to recreate a journal page following THIS YouTube tutorial.  It's a good one!  I cut the cloud stencil from sheet plastic for the background and used Distress Inks and Oxides in Salty Ocean, Mermaid Lagoon and Blueprint Sketch.  I made a large panel and used part of it for my journal page and had a strip leftover, which became this card.  The swirl and cloud are also from A Windy Day, accented with a white paint marker.

My next card is much prettier in person.  I used the flower strip stamp again to stamp a rainbow of Distress Oxides in the same colors as my first card.  I finished with a die cut sentiment and watercolored Wildflowers from the Back to Nature collection ( ABM-BTN-STAMP150).

I changed directions with my final card and chose a stamp from the Studio Light Grunge collection (SL-GR-STAMP199).  I watercolored the image and added the stamped circles from another Grunge stamp set (SL-GR-STAMP33).

I hope these cards have inspired you to get inky today!  xx, Autumn

Studio Light Mini Book and Wardrobe Die Cuts

Hi friends!  I've got quite a lot to pack into today's post, so I hope you'll grab a cuppa and enjoy!  It has been my pleasure to create with the new Ultimate Scrap Collection by Studio Light (SL-USC-PS21).

I immediately fell in love with the deep, moody purple florals in this collection and spent an evening fussy cutting while watching TV in preparation for a few special makes.  For this first project, I used the USC with the Pocket Creative Folder dies (SL-ES-CD454).  These fab dies cut every element for a wee mini book.

The front and back inside pages have flaps and the prescored pages can easily be adhered with a variety of options for tag pockets and layers.  If you love working small, this mini book die set is for you!  I hope to add some photo booth snapshots to personalize my finished book.

My second project features the fabulous Floral Heart Frame die set (SL-ES-CD465).  I layered several fussy cut flowers in the central heart for dimension and finished with a sentiment stamp from the Happy Birthday stamp set (SL-ES-STAMP305) stamped in Archival Plum.

I love the elegant look of this layering die set!

Finally, I have a very different style of project for you.  I used the 3D Closet Card Shape dies (SL-ES-CD455) to make this amazing little wardrobe that folds flat to fit into an envelope.  There are tons of dies to create all sorts of layering options for the doorway.

I used a little Rub 'N Buff to accentuate my card base with gold.  This die is perfect for you fantasy fans of Narnia!  How fun to send a little wardrobe to a dear friend.  I hope you've enjoyed these projects today.  Until next time, Autumn

Distress Oxide Rainbow Art by Marlene Zig Zag Tag Book

Hi friends!  I hope you're having a very happy January!  I've had a couple of days to play and created a couple of very bright projects!  I created this rainbow card with my mom on New Year's Eve using some older Art by Marlene stamps, Birthday Bash from Marlene's World.  I added in some small stamps from her Advent calendar (white triangles and happy word in the background).  It was a lot of fun!

To create the background I dipped a Bristol panel into watered (not too watery) Distress Oxides.  I used Spiced Marmalade, Picked Raspberry, Squeezed Lemonade and Broken China (this one was regular Distress Ink).  I was able to stamp the blowfish directly onto the background and watercolor him with markers.

I used a white paint pen to add some highlights to the stamping/coloring.  I fussy cut the banner and mounted it to have some extra white in the design.

It was so much fun that I decided next I would make an inky little tag book using my new Marlene's Mix It Up Mini Zig Zag Journal Dies (ABM-MUC-CD417).  I followed the same dipping process with the front and back of the tag book, also cut from Bristol card.  I used Distress Oxides in Spiced Marmalade, Squeezed Lemonade and Broken China, Twisted and Shaded Lilac and Picked Raspberry in Distress Ink (to get a brighter/more vibrant pink).

I used Marlene's Back to Nature Bugs Life stamp set (ABM-BTN-STAMP151).  I stamped the bugs onto the tag book, then again onto plain Bristol to watercolor with markers.  I fussy cut them and adhered them back in place.

I added some white embossed flowers using the Mixed Up Collection Blooming Good stamp set (ABM-MUC-STAMP284).

And here's the back side of my finished book.  I hope it makes you smile today!  Thanks for visiting!  Check out all of my Art by Marlene projects HERE.  xx, Autumn

Happy New Year Cards with Studio Light

Hello friends and happy New Year!  I'm so excited today to share some very happy news with you.  I've officially joined the Studio Light design team!  Studio Light is a stamp and die manufacturer based in the Netherlands.  I'm thrilled to begin sharing my creations with their amazing product range.  I will primarily be sharing on Instagram, so make sure to follow me at @sewpaperpaint for all the latest and follow @studiolight_nl for my other teamies' makes and product release info.

For today's card I did some gold embossing on black with the Cheers (BL-ES-STAMP353) and watercolored with my Radiant Pearls pearlescent watercolors.  I splashed the excess around the black panel for a confetti look and added Studio Light silver and gold pearls.  This fun stamp collection features lots of really cute designs for winter cardmaking.

I used the Essential Cutting Dies (SL-ES-CD443) to cut my layers and embossed the background using the Dots and Stains Mask (SL-GR-MASK157).  I finished by stamping a sentiment from the Bubbly stamp set (BL-ES-STAMP356) with Staz-On onto a scored acetate strip (using leftover die cut packaging).  I really like this floating sentiment!

My next card was really fun to make.  I used the Champagne stamp from the same collection (BL-ES-STAMP350) and stamped it repeatedly along the top of the card, then colored the images with brush markers.

The fun part was splattering a zillion splatters to resemble the spray!  I used mica sprays in silver, gold and bronze for this.  I dried between colors so they didn't mix too much.  It was really fun and I hope you'll give it a try one day!

We had a wonderful Christmas and early in December celebrated Sydney's 4 year Cancerversary.  We praise God daily that our sweet girl is cancer free!  I've just completed a huge studio switch-up and hope to share my art room photos with you soon!  I'm looking forward to a more peaceful, creative 2023 and hope the same for each of you.  Hugs, Autumn
