Tim Holtz Distress Ink Notecard Gift Box Tutorial

It's time for a new challenge at A Vintage Journey and our hostess Deb has asked us, "For our first challenge of 2018 we'd like you to create with a box. Any box of any size will do, it can be one you have made yourself or one that you are recycling or even one that you have drawn. We'd like you to make your project either inside the box itself or do something imaginative on the outside or both if that's where your muse takes you. As always we like to see your projects in our preferred styles: vintage; shabby; mixed media; art journaling; industrial, timeworn or steampunk. So put on your thinking caps and re-imagine those boxes both inside and out!"

During this extremely busy time of year I decided to do a simple, yet much needed project, and made a gift card box to house several thank you cards for those lovely Christmas gifts recently received.

After a quick search I came up with THIS pin on Pinterest with the guidelines for the box.  I made mine with watercolor paper so that I could dip it into Distress Inks.  I used a Carta Bella stencil and Prima texture paste with Ranger white embossing powder over my inky background for the snowflakes.

I sponged the base and stamped with a couple of Tim Holtz stamps, the large snowflakes from last year and the small ones from my new set this year.  It is easier to do the ink work before scoring your panels.

I borrowed these gorgeous Tim Holtz snowflake stamps from my sweet friend Madelyn and made these panels.  They were inked with Cracked Pistachio, Blueprint Sketch and Chipped Sapphire DI then splashed with gesso and watered down Perfect Pearls for a night sky effect.  I added a simple stamped sentiment with alphabet stamps and dyed bows to each card.

The final touch was to embellish my box.  I layered Stacked Snowflakes cut from chipboard and distressed with DecoArt Crackle Paste.  It was a new bottle and I didn't get huge cracks.  I tinted with more Distress Ink and added some Distress Glitter for more texture.  I did the same with the Festive Greens, cut from metallic kraft core.  I love this icy effect, a tip from Emma Williams.

And there you have it!  I hope you enjoyed this project and will make a boxed set of notecards of your own.  We'd love for you to play along in our current challenge.  Our sponsor this month is the Funkie Junkie Boutique!  One lucky winner will receive a $25 gift voucher.
